Children and Adolescents
Preventive dentistry is very important for children as it helps to provide early treatment for tooth decay, uneven spacing and misalignment. Preventive treatment includes: diagnosing abnormal oral growth, cavity risk assessment, fluoride treatment, diet recommendation and advice on oral hygiene at home. We recommend dental sealants if cavities detected and orthodontic appliances to correct unevenly spaced teeth:
Importance of Early Dental Care
At our clinic, we recommend that parents bring their children in for their first dental appointment by the age of one. This is because it is important to establish good oral hygiene habits early on. During your child’s first dental visit, we will examine their teeth and gums, and provide you with advice on how to care for your child’s teeth at home. By bringing your child in for regular check-ups, we can help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental problems.
Dental Care for Toddlers
When your child reaches the right age, the teeth start to project out of the gums, which usually leads to pain and irritation. There are numerous ways to ease the pain – There are toys which help teething children. Chewing these toys helps in reducing the pain. You can also make use of pacifiers or rub your finger delicately on the sore gums. When the baby turns one, start using non-fluoridated toothpaste specifically made for babies. If you are not sure, ask your dentist to recommend a tooth paste.
Common Dental Procedures for Children
1. Fillings
If your child has a cavity, we will clean the affected area and fill it with a tooth-colored filling.
2. Extractions
In some cases, a tooth may need to be extracted. We use gentle techniques to ensure that the procedure is as painless as possible.
3. Orthodontics
If your child’s teeth are misaligned, we may recommend orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth and improve their bite.
4. Sealants
Dental sealants are a thin coating that is applied to the teeth to help prevent cavities.
