The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides basic dental services to children. East Side Dental, Bundaberg, bulk bill Child Dental Benefits Schedule (Medicare) for all eligible children. Please note that adults aren’t covered by Medicare for dental. Call us at (07) 4151 7305 to know more.
What is CDBS?
The CDBS is a government initiative to improve dental health of children between the ages of 2 and 17. Under the scheme, all eligible children are provided with $1,000 worth of free treatment. Furthermore, you can use over a two calendar year period on a range of dental services.
Remember, if you do not use all of your $1,000 benefit in the first year of eligibility, you can use it in the second year if you are still eligible. Any remaining balance will not carry forward at the end of the second year.
CDBS will cover a range of services including:
- Examinations
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Extractions
- Partial dentures
What CDBS doesn’t cover?
Services can be provided in a public or private setting. Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital. Also, many of these services have claiming restrictions. These are listed in the Guide to the CDBS on the Department of Health’s website. Please check your child’s eligibility.
IMPORTANT
To be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, the patient must:
- be of age 2 to 17 years for at least 1 day of the calendar year
- be eligible for Medicare
- receive, or be part of a family receiving, certain Australian Government payments
Most importantly, Medicare assess eligibility at the beginning of each calendar year and it’s valid for the entire year. Children who become eligible later in the calendar year will have their eligibility backdated to begin from 1 January of that calendar year.

Payment Options / Plans
Payment plans are essentially loans, which can support you in managing the high cost of dental treatment. Rather than paying for your dental work in an upfront lumpsum, a payment plan allows you to pay in instalments over a period of time. We have onboard, payment plan service providers who will make your payment plan’s instalments even more affordable.
There are several payment options available at our surgery including Cash, Cheque, EFTPOS, Credit Card, HICAPS, AMEX and Direct Deposit.
